چکیده

Neonatal health care is concerned with the condition of the newborn from birth to 4 weeks (28 days) of age. Neonatal survival is a very sensitive indicator of population growth and socio-economic development. The survival rate of female infants correlates to subsequent population replacement. For these reasons, the issue of neonatal deaths is a serious national health concern, especially in developing countries where 96% of the world’s approximate 5 million annual neonatal deaths occur 1 .

Neonatal Sepsis: An Update

Sepsis is the most common cause of neonatal mortality. As per National Neonatal-Perinatal Database (NNPD), 2002-2003, the incidence of neonatal sepsis in India was 30 per 1000 live births. Signs and symptoms of sepsis are nonspecific; therefore empirical antimicrobial therapy is promptly initiated after obtaining appropriate cultures. The early manifestations of neonatal sepsis are vague and il...

Reducing Neonatal Mortality in India: Critical Role of Access to Emergency Obstetric Care

BACKGROUND Neonatal mortality currently accounts for 41% of all global deaths among children below five years. Despite recording a 33% decline in neonatal deaths between 2000 and 2009, about 900,000 neonates died in India in 2009. The decline in neonatal mortality is slower than in the post-neonatal period, and neonatal mortality rates have increased as a proportion of under-five mortality rate...

Determinants of neonatal mortality in rural India, 2007–2008

Background. Despite the growing share of neonatal mortality in under-5 mortality in the recent decades in India, most studies have focused on infant and child mortality putting neonatal mortality on the back seat. The development of focused and evidence-based health interventions to reduce neonatal mortality warrants an examination of factors affecting it. Therefore, this study attempt to exami...

Utilization of postnatal care for newborns and its association with neonatal mortality in India: An analytical appraisal

The paper aims to examine the association of PNC for newborns with neonatal mortality in India. METHODS Data from District Level Household Survey, waiv...

Neonatal mortality in rural India: Does access to health infrastructure play a role? by

Although child mortality rates have dropped in India over the last two decades, neonatal mortality rates continue to be high. Our empirical analysis un...

Hematological and Biological Markers of Neonatal Sepsis

Septicemia in neonates is the commonest cause of mortality. Early recognition and diagnosis of neonatal sepsis remains a challenge because of the variable and nonspecific clinical presentation. The laboratory criteria are often non specific and not fully reliable. The objective of this review is to highlight the various hematological and biological markers of neonatal sepsis. We searched ...
